Green Building Defined
Environmental Builders is building homes of the future – today. By designing and constructing luxury custom homes based on “sustainability” or “green building” principles, we use resources more efficiently, create a healthier in-home lifestyle, conserve energy, and protect the environment. Through this Eco-Logic approach to construction, the result is a home that leaves a less impactful “footprint” on the environment through the effective use of design, layout, materials, resource usage, and maintenance requirements.
In the United States, buildings account for:
- 36% of total energy use/65% of electricity
- 30% of greenhouse gas emissions
- 30% of raw materials use
- 30% of waste output/136 million tons annually
Sustainable Design & Construction
Building your sustainable, green dream home involves discovering the balance between traditional construction techniques, forward-thinking design, and innovative use of materials. Energy-efficient, cost-effective, low-maintenance materials are chosen for components such as insulation, window systems, HVAC design, and plumbing systems. Irrigation systems can be designed to use “gray water.”
Luxury interior finishes use materials such as plantation certified mahogany and locally produced stone. Even the positioning of the home on the lot and the floor plan can play a significant role in designing and building an energy-efficient, environmentally friendly green home. Throughout the process, the focus is on renewable, recyclable raw materials that have a long life and a minimal impact on the waste stream.
LEED Certification
 |
LEED stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This is a national standard rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building Council for designing and constructing high-performance, sustainable, green buildings. Building projects are awarded LEED certification points based on the following criteria:
• Sustainable sites
• Water efficiency
• Energy and atmosphere
• Materials and resources
• Indoor environmental quality
• Innovation and design process |
Environmental Builders strives to obtain the highest LEED certification (Platinum) on every custom home building project, ensuring that owners and their families are living in an ecologically friendly, energy-efficient, healthy environment – every day.
